In my words, December 9 – 15

Take a walk. There is nothing better. Go at your own speed and stop to look at whatever you want. Take a notebook along to jot down your thoughts. Something comes, or better yet you will come to something. Meander with a friend and talk about the past week, mull over things, and hear other thoughts beyond your own doubts.

This past year, starting in the spring, almost every week, I took a walk through Central Park with friends and often with my friend Tom who was giving up cigarettes. As the seasons changed, Tom’s will grew stronger, and in many ways I relaxed as I put aside my busy life to walk with him. You can’t do two things at once. That’s what’s so good about taking a walk because it brings you, footstep after footstep, to yourself. If you don’t know what to do, take a walk and what you should do will occur to you.
