— Maint joyau dort enseveli
Dans les ténèbres et l’oubli,
Bien loin des pioches et des sondes;
[narrowcolumn side="right"]
Mainte fleur épanche à regret
Son parfum doux comme un secret
Dans les solitudes profondes.

To lift a weight so heavy,
Sisyphus, we’d need your strength.
The heart is willing and wants to work
but Art is long and Life is short.

Far from the famous graves
toward one out of the way
my heart, like a veiled drum,
goes beating a funeral march.

Many jewels sleep in the deep
darkness forgotten
by shovels and pick axes

and many a flower with regret
pours out its sweet perfume like a secret
told to the solitary silences.
