Sanjay Agnihotri reads at the Parkside Lounge, 2/2/20

Sanjay Agnihotri is generous with his time and energy. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of Local Knowledge, a literary and art journal, as well as the programmer and host of its long-running monthly reading series in Manhattan. I am going to give him a shout out here because he selflessly gives a voice to many in the local literary community. Currently, he is working on a collection of linked stories about migrant workers and immigrants (primarily from the lower depths of the Indian sub-continent) living and working in northern New Jersey. I think these stories are full of truth, glimmers of humanity that are touching, brilliant and funny; they often surprise me and leave me laughing. “Guerrilla Marketing”, a story from this collection, won a Pushcart Prize for fiction in 2019 and was included in the anthology: Pushcart Prize XLIII, Best of the Small Presses 2019. Sanjay Agnihotri was reading from this collection when I recorded him at the Parkside Lounge in February. Watch the Vimeo below and enjoy this entertaining writer who was born in Queens, and raised in India, England, Saudi Arabia, and New Jersey too where he lives now with his wife and daughter.
