Roberto Montes reads from I Don’t Know Do You

On Friday night at the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division at 83A Hester Street (a great bookstore by the way), I saw Roberto Montes read from his new book of poems, I Don’t Know Do You, published by Ampersand Press. Anyone listening to Roberto read will be captivated by his sense of humor which is apparent there in his title. Anyone listening realizes too that any poet with such a sense of humor must also have a sense as sad and somber to balance himself; and it is out of this conflict, this intensity of extremes that the words come surprising us, each word intact and there to be heard, image, sound and thought: the poet has worked so well on his poems, his labor of love, that they all seem effortlessly wrought.

The Bureau of General Services—Queer Division at 83A Hester Street has I Don’t Know You Do You for sale. It is one of the best bookstores in New York, the best for gay literature, and an adventurous place to visit. Go!
