Beautiful Sadness

Stopped by to see my nephew Daniel in Philly and he suggested that we write a song in the spur of the moment, which intimidated me at first, but then he started to play on his electric guitar and I picked up the acoustic and strummed a G, C, G, D chord in an equal four beat measure and the words “Golden teardrops” came to my mind and then it just started to take shape, move and form, as Dan slowed the pace and started adjusting the recording equipment, laid down a drum, and set me up at the fancy microphone to sing with the lyrics as I was writing them, and in an hour—well, maybe two—Voilà—there you have it, just like we were Carol King; actually it sounds a little bit like MMMBop by Hanson to me, but that is probably only me, and only the chorus way slowed down. What is a song? “It is a secret that no one knows.”—And here you have the necessary first draft of ours, a song.

Beautiful Sadness

Golden teardrops
falling in sunlight
falling like diamonds
from her bright eyes

Beautiful sadness
can make your heart sigh
falling like diamonds
into the daylight

Oh come on, honey
let’s not fight
Oh come on, honey
let those tears dry

Because I love you, honey
that’s why
Let those tears dry

Because I love you, honey
it will come as no surprise
we’ll be kissing by and by

that we’ll be kissing by and by
Let those tears dry
Come on, let’s not fight
it’ll come as no surprise
we’ll be kissing by and by
by and by
by and by
we’ll be kissing
by and by
