Lonely Christopher began hosting his Poetry Hell reading series at Enoch’s Coffee at 480 10th Avenue in June and continued until September. Poetry Hell was sponsored by Segue Foundation. Creating this series was an explicit effort to expand Segue’s programming to include new voices and cater to those experimental poets who don’t spend their summers vacationing around the world.
I attended quite a few of the readings and fell in love with the space, always getting there about an hour early to get a comfortable chair, drink an iced coffee and soak up the good vibes emanating from the place.
On August 9th, I recorded the poets reading on my iPhone. That would be Andrew Colarusso, Mark Faunlagui, Ruby Aiyo Gerber, Kenneth Revelz and Ariel Yelen. It is simply a handheld iPhone. Fearing I’d run out of charge, I skipped Lonely Christopher’s wonderful introductions, and just focused on the poets who can be heard just fine above some humming fans. After all we are in hell, and it’s summertime.
Before we go to Poetry Hell, however, I would like to mention Lonely Christopher’s Patreon link where folks can subscribe and read his thoughts on current opera, plays, authors, and movies, which are entertaining and enlightening and leave me to marvel at how much good work this one man gets done. Check it out.
