On Friday evening, May 8, at the Loisaida Center, I recorded Noel Quiñones and their family reading in celebration of the publication of their first book, Orange.
La familia included Sean Desvignes, Yesenia Montilla, José Olivarez, Cynthia Malick and Willie Perdomo, poet friends, mentors who had been seminal for Quiñones along their way to becoming a poet.
The poetry of each reader was a celebration in its own right. Sharing their poems with Quiñones added up to an eventful entertaining evening and a shout out too to the Bronx and the vitality and the creativity a young poet can encounter there while growing up.
At the Loisaida Center on May 8 poetry lived and lives. You can hear all of the poets in the Vimeo below. Enjoy.
