A Shout Out to Hanging Loose Press

Last Saturday, after spending the early afternoon together, Patricia Spears Jones and I attended a poetry reading at GreenSpace@President Street in Brooklyn to celebrate the publication of Hanging Loose 119.

Hanging Loose Press began in 1966, and has survived these many decades because of its caring consistent editors that include Jiwon Choi and Joanna Fuhrman who are keeping the press alive today.

Saturday’s reading was meaningful. To be in a community garden is to enjoy the work of others whose effort allows one to be there with the butterfly and flower, the poets and their listeners sharing the same sunny time and space.

Hanging Loose Press is here, a part of this community too by publishing deserving poets who are often overlooked. I’ve scanned seven of the poems from the current issue and a painting by Claudia Fulshaw whose work also appears on the front and back covers of Hanging Loose 119. Enjoy.

In the Vimeo below, Jiwon Choi introduces the readers, Barbara Henning, Andrew Levy, D.Nurkse, Joanna Solfrian, and Gerald Wagoner. Except for Barbara Henning, all are in the current issue.

Robert Hershon

A few years ago, I recorded Bob Hershon giving a reading at Haverford College. Bob, who was one of the original editors at Hanging Loose, was an outstanding supporter of the press over the years keeping it relevant and afloat. You can hear him read some of his wonderful poems in the link below:
