I went to see Susan Bee at A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn to record her speaking about her new show, “Days of Awe.” Although the title of the show and some of the paintings in it seem ominous and heralds of doom, my viewing experience was different. The oil paintings are bright combinations of Indian mythology, medieval imagery, and biblical revelations that open the imagination to joy and hope not gloom. Even Satan’s angels falling out of heaven look like they’re having fun. Susan Bee talks all about it in the Vimeo below. Enjoy.

Here is a review of “Days Of Awe” by Lilly Wei in the Brooklyn Rail:
Susan Bee: Days of Awe | The Brooklyn Rail
Days of Awe is the resounding title of Susan Bee’s latest solo show at A.I.R. gallery. While you can’t judge a show by its title, this one is particularly timely, with its apocryphal reverberations, its meaning gyrating between a best-of-times, worst-of-times scenario, depending on who’s doing the spin.
